Microcomputer Support Specialist Concentration
The Microcomputer Support Specialist concentration is designed to provide training for technical or supervisory employment in all types of organizations, or for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. The objectives of this program are: first, to provide a technical competence in the management and support of microcomputer systems; and second, to provide a basic understanding of the business organization and the role of a microcomputer center in such an organization. Students will receive hands-on experience with microcomputer applications, systems operations, microcomputer hardware and software, data communications and networking in a computer laboratory setting. In addition to major field course work, students will have an internship in microcomputer repair and be able to pursue, on an individual basis or within a group, topics of current interest in computer information systems under faculty guidance. Courses are open to students in all other curricula depending on their interests and background.
Degree Requirements
To fulfill requirements for the Associate in Applied Science degree, the candidate in the major field of Computer Information Systems–Microcomputer Support Specialist concentration must complete a minimum of 66 credit hours of academic work with a GPA of not less than 2.00. These include 29 credits in the major field, 6 credits of core electives, 23 credits in prescribed areas of liberal arts and sciences, and 8 credits of general electives as listed below. Additionally, to qualify for the A.A.S. degree, candidates must also complete with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 all required and elective courses bearing the major field course prefix “CITA.”

ENGL 101; 3 credits in Mathematics/Science; 2 credits in Physical Education; Additional courses to total 15 credits, to be selected from remaining categories of Trustees' General Education Core Requirements.
General Electives
8 credits.
