Students, Children Celebrate Week of the Young Child
SUNY Cobleskill students are organizing a children’s march and two children’s art exhibits to celebrate the Week of the Young Child, April 14-18. The Week of the Young Child is a national event sponsored by the Association for the Education of Young Children (AEYC), during which local chapters organize activities focused on a central theme of child care in the community.
SUNY Cobleskill’s Capital District Student Chapter of the AEYC is holding a children’s march on Wednesday, April 16 at 10 a.m. in Suffolk Circle. Students, professors, children from the college’s child care center and staff, as well as Schoharie County Head Start families and other supporters will march to raise awareness of the importance of early childhood education.
Early childhood students also plan children’s art exhibits for April 9-30 at Van Wagenen Library on campus and the Cobleskill Community Library at 110 Union Street in Cobleskill. Both locations will display art created by children at the campus child care center and Schoharie County Head Start Programs, as well as information about the developmental stages of children’s art.
While SUNY Cobleskill students are working on the local art exhibits, Winning Beginning NY – an early child care and education coalition – is planning its 2008 Children’s Art Project. This gives children ages 1 to 5 an opportunity to create art to be displayed at the Legislative Office Building in Albany.
