SUNY Cobleskill’s Moran to serve as Chair of Financial Planners Ethics Committee
Professor and Director of SUNY Cobleskill’s Financial Planning Program Dr. Charles Moran was selected to serve as chairman of the Financial Planning Association’s (FPA ™) 2007 Ethics Committee. The FPA is a 28,000 member national professional organization. As a member of the committee Moran will lead all committee activities that implement the code of ethics of the FPA™. Moran has served on the board of directors for FPA™, chaired their government relations committee, and served on the ethics committee for five years.
SUNY Cobleskill’s Bachelor of Business Administration in Technology Management: Financial Services degree program is one of only two degree programs in financial services offered by SUNY colleges. The program must undergo a rigorous reaccreditation every three years, and SUNY Cobleskill’s was reaccredited this year under Moran’s leadership.
SUNY Cobleskill Professor Paul Gemmiti said, “We are honored to have Chuck, a national figure, on our campus. He does a tremendous job with our students and in promoting the program.”
Dr. Moran received a J.D. from The University of Michigan Law School, an A.B. from Princeton University, and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. His 40 years of experience in financial services include chairman and CEO of a large investment management company, senior vice president of a major bank, founding president of Governmental Securities Clearing Corporation, and currently president of Strategic Financial Advisors. He also teaches Ethics in the Business Organization at New York University, and International Corporate Governance and Organizations, Management Behavior and Economics at Harvard University.
According to Moran, the Bachelor of Business Administration in Technology Management: Financial Services at SUNY Cobleskill “is the leading edge in financial services.”
“We have students coming out of our four-year program that are very successful, having taken all the courses needed to take the Certified Financial Planners exam. Branch managers and regional vice presidents of regional organizations have often taken only two of these courses,” he said. “There is no program around in the private or public colleges that have a faculty with the qualifications that we have in this BBA program.”
