SUNY Cobleskill Students Compete in National Landscaping Contests
Twenty-one SUNY Cobleskill students competed against 66 schools in several events at the 32nd Student Career Days, one of the largest recruiting event and competition, held at North Metro Technical College in Atlanta, Ga. from March 27-30.
Christopher Powers of Rye received a $1,000 scholarship from the PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation Each year scholarships to students who are enrolled in the landscape contracting and horticulture programs at two-year and four-year colleges and universities across the nation.
The SUNY Cobleskill team of Nicholas Turner of Plymouth, Vt.; Peter Kavakos of South Cairo; and Chad Pierce of Machias, finished in the top third of the schools overall, took second place in the Interior Landscape Design and second in Wood Construction.
The students met and networked with more than 100 landscape companies from across the nation at the Career Fair during the three-day event. More than 900 students from across the United States attended the competition. Next year it will be held at California Polytechnic University in Pomona, Calif.
