  • Dean's Welcome

This is an exciting time to be a part of the School of Arts and Sciences at SUNY Cobleskill. We offer a number of outstanding Associate Degree programs, including those in Early Childhood Education, the Natural Sciences, the Humanities, Physical Education, and theSocial Sciences.  Moreover, the University’s Strategic Plan has made the development of excellent new bachelor’s degree programs one of our highest priorities.

The response of our faculty to this mandate has been most gratifying.  In January, 2007, we will offer a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Biotechnology, one of only three such cutting-edge programs in the United States.  Additional bachelor’s degree programs are also being planned in the Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.

The common theme underlying all of our programs is academic excellence in the broadest sense.  Our faculty is dedicated to providing students with an unsurpassed educational experience in a small-college atmosphere.  We believe that a student’s education does not end at the classroom door; rather, the quality of interaction between our students and members of the faculty outside of the classroom is a critical component of the academic experience.  It is what distinguishes us from other larger and less-personal universities. In fact, I believe that our emphasis on student/faculty interaction provides the equivalent of a small private college education at a fraction of the cost.

I hope that you will decide to enroll in one of the programs in the School of Arts and Sciences at SUNY Cobleskill. Please accept my personal invitation to visit our campus and meet with our students and faculty.  It is the best way to understand why we consider SUNY Cobleskill to be such a very special place.

Sincerely,

Thomas J. Hickey, J.D., Ph.D.
