Paramedic/EMT A.A.S

Associate in Applied Science Degree
(Application Curriculum Code – 5299)

The paramedic is a rapidly expanding medical role that is gaining in popularity, diversity, and demand.  As the most highly trained EMS provider in the pre-hospital setting, the paramedics respond to medical and traumatic emergencies, rapidly, continuously and systematically assessing patients, providing appropriate care necessary to sustain life.  Training includes advanced skills in patient assessment, intubation, cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, IV therapy, medication administration, and much more.

The employment opportunities for paramedics vary by region; the national average starting salary in 2006 was $35,000-$50,000 according to J.E.M.S. Salary Survey.

The Paramedic Program is a joint venture between Bassett Healthcare and SUNY Cobleskill.  Nationally recognized faculty help students learn the “right stuff” to become competent entry-level paramedic.
This program starts with a strong foundation in basic biology, along with a broad liberal arts education.  Students take a two-course sequence in human anatomy & physiology as well as general biology, before taking a four-course sequence in the second year that focuses exclusively paramedicine, students must possess a valid EMT license.
By choosing the proper elective courses, students can elect to transfer easily into many four-year college programs.
