Culinary Extravaganza Raises Thousands for Student Success

The 5th Annual Culinary Extravaganza at SUNY Cobleskill brought students, faculty, alumni and celebrity chefs together on October 21 for a celebration of food, the autumn harvest, and our shared belief in the power of innovative, hands-on education.

As our students partnered with some of the region’s best chefs to present imaginative dishes prepared with fresh local produce, our generous SUNY Cobleskill community raised more than $30,000, including a $10,000 match from a “very proud SUNY Cobleskill alumnus,” in a live fundraising challenge toward the purchase of a new professional freezer and brewing system. Ticket sales and sponsorships grossed more than $23,000 for the College Foundation.

With the freezer, students in Culinary Arts and Dairy Science will be able to transform campus-produced milk into products like ice cream, gelato, sorbet and custard for sale in our upcoming campus retail store, practicing technical production skills as well as product development, marketing and business principles. The professional brewing system, known as a “brew sculptures,” will benefit our recently announced Fermentation Science and Applied Fermentation programs.

To all of those who attended and donated, we say sincerely: Thank you. Private support is integral to our success and the success of our students. If you were unable to attend or would like to extend your support, contributions can still be made by calling 518.255.5524 or online here.
