Animal Science B.T. with tracks in 1) animal science, 2) dairy, 3) equine, 4) livestock, 5) histotechnology
The Animal Science BT degree program is designed to offer students the opportunity to study animal sciences without having to specify a concentration. The program allows the student flexibility in tailoring a program to meet their career goals while giving them a solid base in the animal sciences. Students may enter the program as freshmen or transfer into the program. The program prepares students for careers in the animal industry including animal production, animal nutrition and research. - Animal Science Track
- To fulfill the requirements for the Bachelor of Technology degree in Animal Science, the candidate must complete 126 credit hours with a minimum of 44 credit hours of major field requirements, 20 credit hours of general electives, 26 credit hours of technical electives, and 36 credit hours of liberal arts and science courses. - Livestock Concentration
- The Animal Science - Livestock concentration is designed to offer students advanced skills in the area of general livestock production. This concentration focuses on meat animal production, management and marketing. Students entering the program will build on a strong background from a two-year program and previous applied experiences.
- Advanced course offerings will improve skills in a wide variety of meat animals such as cattle, hogs, sheep and goats. The program is for students interested in a career in the meat industry.

- Dairy Concentration
- This curriculum is designed to provide a well rounded education in the efficient and profitable management of a dairy operation. In doing so, this program is committed to the future of the dairy industry in the northeastern United States. Students will gain necessary skills and knowledge through classroom instruction, laboratory training, on-farm experience, and field visits in order to meet the following program goals:
- To provide students with the technical skills and ability to successfully operate and manage an efficient and profitable dairy operation.
- To provide students with the knowledge and ability to successfully enter an occupation closely related to the dairy industry.
- To provide students with the necessary basic knowledge and ability to continue their education in various bachelor's degree programs.
- To encourage the development of critical thinking skills and the goal of lifelong learning.
- To provide students with the ability to handle and work safely and effectively with dairy cattle.
- To recognize requirements and needs of dairy cattle and to effectively implement management decisions that provide optimum care for dairy animals regardless of management systems.
- The Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources offers the only Bachelor of Technology in Agriculture degree program in New York State. The Bachelor of Technology is an upper-level program, and all students should complete an associate degree or its equivalent prior to admission to as a degree candidate. Students may complete the two-year Dairy Production and Management program as preparation to enter the BT program.

- The Animal Science - Equine concentration is designed to offer students the opportunity to develop advanced skills in the areas of equine science, competition and business management. Students entering the program will build on a strong background from a two-year program and previous competitive experiences. The program is planned for students with a career goal of working in the horse industry. This concentration will offer the opportunity to expand on the student's previous background and to increase the scope of knowledge and skills necessary to effectively perform in a wide variety of equine-related careers.
Degree Requirements
- The Animal Science - Equine concentration is designed to offer students the opportunity to develop advanced skills in the areas of equine science, competition and business management. Students entering the program will build on a strong background from a two-year program and previous competitive experiences. The program is planned for students with a career goal of working in the horse industry. This concentration will offer the opportunity to expand on the student's previous background and to increase the scope of knowledge and skills necessary to effectively perform in a wide variety of equine-related careers.
- Histotechnology Concentration
- The Animal Science - Histotechnology Concentration is designed to offer students, especially graduates of animal science and veterinary technology associate degree programs, advanced skills in the areas of laboratory science and animal science. Graduates of this program are eligible for the HT certification exam.
- Graduates with HT certification are employable in hospital laboratories (human and veterinary), toxicological and pharmaceutical testing or research, and in other industrial and instructional settings.
