Overview

The greatly increased amount of free time now available as a result of technological advances has produced a leisure-oriented society and a rapidly expanding recreational industry. The Recreation and Sports Area Management curriculum prepares students to manage recreational facilities in both the private and public sectors. Professional opportunities in this diverse field include careers supervising and maintaining ski areas, parks, private campsites, nature centers, golf courses, athletic complexes, public grounds and similar facilities. Graduates of the program receive an Associate in Applied Science degree.

Outstanding Facilities

The campus recreational facilities include ski slopes, athletic fields, swimming pool, tennis courts, golf greens and a chalet-style recreation lodge. These facilities serve as our laboratories. In addition, nearby public recreational areas in the Adirondak and Catskill Mountains provide additional facilities for students pursuing careers in Recreation and Sports Area Management.

As a natural resource-based program, Recreation and Sport Area Management is part of the Plant Science Department. Students benefit from the departments 11 full-time faculty and three technical support specialists who bring industry experience as well as strong academic credentials to the classroom. Ron Bayzon, who directs the Recreation and Sports Area Management Program, is an enthusiastic outdoorsman and has nearly thirty years experience teaching students of all skill levels.
