Commencement FAQs

 

 

 

 

 

When?

 

Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 13. Due to inclement weather, there will be two separate ceremonies The School of Agriculture and Natural Resources ceremony, including keynote addresses and the awarding of honorary degrees, will begin at 10 a.m. The School of Business and Liberal Arts and Sciences ceremony, including the presentation of Chancellor’s Award for Excellence, will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Where?

 

Both Commencement Ceremonies will be held indoors, in Bouck Hall Gymnasium.

How long does the ceremony last?

 

Because inclement weather necessitates two separate ceremonies, one for each school will be held. Each will last about an hour and a half.

Is there a policy on photography?

 

Guests and graduates are welcome to take pictures! We do ask that guests taking pictures do so within the designated photo area during the ceremony. Your attendance at the event constitutes an agreement to the College's use and distribution (now and in the future) of your image or voice in photographs, videotapes, electronic reproductions, or audiotapes. Concerns about this policy should be directed to the Office of College Advancement at 518-255-5690.

Is there a reception afterward?

 

A reception will be held immediately following each ceremony in Bouck Hall Ballroom. Graduates and their guests are cordially invited to join faculty and staff for this occasion.

How many guests may I bring?

 

Tickets are required for an indoor ceremony, so each student who completes the online Graduation Application will receive three tickets.

Only guests with a ticket will be allowed to enter Bouck Hall Gymnasium. Guests without tickets may view the ceremony via live broadcast in Bouck Hall Theatre.

Can I get extra tickets?

No. Due to the popularity of Commencement, extra tickets are not available.

Is there reserved seating?


There is no reserved seating for guests. It is recommended that guests arrive early. Bouck Hall Gymnasium will open at 9am to guests with tickets for the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources ceremony and at 12:45pm for guests of the School of Business and Liberal Arts and Sciences.

What about handicapped access?


If you need accommodations during the Commencement Ceremony due to physical disability, please contact the Office of Campus Events and Conferences at (518) 255-5690 or email us by May 8. If you do not let us know what you need by May 8, we will not be able to accommodate you on the day of Commencement.

How does a graduating student get the cap and gown?


Graduation regalia will be available to purchase in the Campus Bookstore beginning on April 17, 2016. No need to pre-order. Regalia will be available until May 13.

Is there a charge for cap and gown?


Yes. Students can purchase regalia at the Campus Bookstore.

Will I get my diploma on Commencement day?

 

Diplomas will not be distributed at Commencement. They will be mailed to each graduate's address listed on their graduation application, approximately two months after certification by the faculty that all graduation requirements have been met.

How do I get my diploma if I don't attend?


Your diploma will be mailed to your address listed on your graduation application, approximately two months after certification by the faculty that all graduation requirements have been met.

Where will my diploma be sent?


To assure that your diploma gets to you, be sure that the college has your permanent address. You should contact the Registrar (518) 255-5522 to make sure that they have your correct address.
