Federal Direct Loans Entrance Counseling
Entrance Counseling, which provides a summary of borrower’s rights and responsibilities, is required of all Stafford Loan borrowers.
You must complete entrance counseling the first time you borrow a Federal Direct Loan at SUNY Cobleskill.
The Entrance Counseling session is a brief on-line question and answer session completed through the Federal Direct Loan website. You will need you Federal PIN in order to complete the Entrance Counseling.
The federal government has created new restrictions for any student that is a first time borrower as of July 1, 2013. The restrictions are for those students that are eligible for the Federal Direct Subsidized Loans. a student will only be eligible for the subsidized portion of the loans as long as they are within the 150% limit of a degree. In general that would mean a student in an Associate Degree (2 year degree) would have 3 years to complete the degree and a student in a Bachelor Degree (4 year degree) would have 6 years to complete the degree. For more information please read the supplement to the Entrance Counseling you worked online.
Here is a downloadable version of the Federal Entrance Counseling Guide. Please note this does not take the place of actually completing the Entrance Counseling on the studentloans.gov website.
