Associate in Applied Science Degree

The fastest growing equipment industry today is in the turf and grounds care area. Nearly all manufacturers of this equipment are increasing production and sales. There is a great demand for small engine and turf equipment technicians as a result of this rapid expansion. Students develop maintenance skills in small gasoline and diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics and transaxles for outdoor power equipment used in commercial, residential, industrial, agricultural and recreational applications. Students may choose between the traditional Turf and Grounds Care Equipment track or be sponsored by a John Deere dealership and enroll in the John Deere Turf and Grounds Care track.

Degree Requirements
To fulfill requirements for the Associate in Applied Science degree, the candidate in the field of Agricultural Equipment Technology –Turf and Grounds Care Equipment must complete a minimum of 66 credit hours of academic work with a GPA of not less than 2.00. These include 37 credits of major field requirements, 7 credits of Advisement Track Electives, 22 credits in prescribed areas of liberal arts and sciences.

Major Field Requirements

Students should check with their advisors to make sure courses are taken in proper sequence and any prerequisites have been met. Some flexibility is available as to when courses must be taken. Students should consult with their advisors during the scheduling process.

Turf and Grounds Care Equipment Advisement Track Electives
AGEN115 – 1 credit, 3 credits any AGEN from course which is not already a major field requirement except AGEN 105 , AGEN 261 and FWLD 335 and/or RECM 115 , RECM 223 , RECM 225 , and 3 credits of a general elective.

John Deere Turf and Grounds Care Equipment Advisement Track Electives
AGEN116, 117, 118, 119 – 4 credits, RECM115 -2 credits, and 1 credit of a general elective.

Liberal Arts and Sciences Requirements
ENGL 101 – 3 credits; additional ENGL course (not including ENGL 099 ); 1 credit of Physical Education; 6 credits of Science/Mathematics (any BIOL, CHEM, PHYS, PSCI; PHYS 101 , PHYS 102 suggested); Additional Liberal Arts and Science courses totaling 9 credits.
