Dairy Concentration
This curriculum is designed to provide a well rounded education in the efficient and profitable management of a dairy operation. In doing so, this program is committed to the future of the dairy industry in the northeastern United States. Students will gain necessary skills and knowledge through classroom instruction, laboratory training, on-farm experience, and field visits in order to meet the following program goals:
- To provide students with the technical skills and ability to successfully operate and manage an efficient and profitable dairy operation.
- To provide students with the knowledge and ability to successfully enter an occupation closely related to the dairy industry.
- To provide students with the necessary basic knowledge and ability to continue their education in various bachelor's degree programs.
- To encourage the development of critical thinking skills and the goal of lifelong learning.
- To provide students with the ability to handle and work safely and effectively with dairy cattle.
- To recognize requirements and needs of dairy cattle and to effectively implement management decisions that provide optimum care for dairy animals regardless of management systems.
The Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources offers the only Bachelor of Technology in Agriculture degree program in New York State. The Bachelor of Technology is an upper-level program, and all students should complete an associate degree or its equivalent prior to admission to as a degree candidate. Students may complete the two-year Dairy Production and Management program as preparation to enter the BT program.
