Spring 2008 Commencement

UPDATE:
Due to required grounds maintenance on the outdoor Commencement stage and the athletic field, the Spring 2008 Commencement ceremony will be held in Bouck Gymnasium.
When graduates pick up their caps and gowns at the College Bookstore, they will be issued tickets for THREE guests to attend the ceremony inside the Gymnasium.
Additional guests may view the ceremony via simulcast in Bouck Theater or Prentice Dining Hall. Due to fire code and building safety regulations additional tickets are not available.
Commencement information packets were mailed to all potential graduates and their families on Tuesday, March 25. The same information is posted on our website. Should you have any questions, please call the President’s Office at extension 5111.
BEFORE COMMENCEMENT DAY
DIRECTIONS:
From I-88, take Exit 21, to Route 7. Proceed 1 mile to the main campus entrance. There will be University Police Officers and Orange Key Students directing traffic from there.
PHYSICALLY-CHALLENGED GUESTS:
At both the outdoor or indoor ceremony, parking and seating accommodations will be made for those who are physically challenged. If you or a guest requires special attention, please contact Karen Santulli in the President's Office 518-255-5111.
HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS:
Hotel information may be obtained through the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce at 518-295-6551.
ATTIRE:
Gowns, caps and tassels can be picked up in the College Bookstore during regular hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) beginning May 5. They also will be available on Saturday, May 17, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Bookstore. PLEASE NOTE: Gowns, caps, and tassels are your personal property and should be taken with you following Commencement.
Commencement is a formal academic ceremony. All graduates should dress appropriately and wear proper academic attire. Individuals should respect this special event that is for their fellow graduates and guests, so conduct and proper decorum is expected.
When you pick up your gowns, you will receive a name card that will be used to announce your name during the commencement ceremony.
Verify your name when receiving the card. Make any corrections directly on the card. If your name might be mispronounced, please print a phonetic spelling immediately below the printed name.
PAYMENTS:
COMMENCEMENT FEE
All students participating in Commencement must pay the $50 Commencement Fee (which includes your cap and gown) that was noted on the Fall 2007 or Spring 2008 bill (payable at the Student Accounts Office, Knapp Hall). If you have questions concerning the fee, please call the Student Accounts Office at 518-255-5539.
FEES AND FINES
All outstanding bills, fees or fines must be paid prior to transcripts or diplomas being sent. Payments can be made at the Student Accounts Office in Knapp Hall during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) on weekdays. Please note that the Student Accounts Office will NOT be open on Commencement Day.
ON COMMENCEMENT DAY
LINE-UP:
Graduates will line up for the processional outside of Bouck Hall no later than 10:00 a.m. on Commencement Day, May 17. Faculty Marshals will be there to assist with the formation of the processional. If it is necessary to hold Commencement in Bouck Gym, graduates will line up in Bouck Hall, by 10:00 a.m. You must use the main doors to Bouck Hall as the side entrances will remain locked to avoid congestion during line-up.
Bring your name card with you to the Commencement ceremony so that you can be introduced as you walk across the stage.
PICTURES:
Families are welcome to bring cameras. We do ask, however, that those taking pictures do so within the designated photo area.
RECEPTION:
A reception will be held in Bouck Hall Ballroom immediately following the ceremony. Graduates and their guests are cordially invited to join faculty and staff for this occasion.
DIPLOMAS:
Diplomas will not be distributed at Commencement. They will be mailed to each
graduate’s permanent home address upon certification by the faculty that all graduation requirements have been met.
