- Presidential Freedom Scholarship
An online certification form is now available for all high schools nationwide to select up to two students to receive a $1,000 Presidential Freedom Scholarship. The program highlights and promotes student service and active citizenship and provides Presidential recognition and a college scholarship. The students selected may be either high school juniors or seniors.
The scholarship certification process is fast and easy. Please visit the program's web site, www.nationalservice.org/scholarships, where you will find program information and the online certification process. Paper applications are also available on the site.
Scholarship application forms must be submitted by school personnel, and contain the school principal signature.
The Corporation for National and Community Service provides $500 which must be matched with $500 secured by the school from the community. Each participating high school must arrange for a local matching scholarship of $500, but local support for your students is easy to find. More than 31,000 scholarships have been awarded to date, and local scholarship matching funds have been provided by a wide range of sources, such as the PTAs, booster or alumni clubs, businesses, and local civic and fraternal organizations. Many existing scholarship programs require 100 hours of service, and these can be matched with the Presidential Freedom Scholarship.
Certification forms will be accepted until July 16, 2004. All scholarship recipients will receive a letter of recognition and a President's Volunteer Service Award pin. Each scholarship check of $500 from the Corporation for National and Community Service will be mailed directly to the student made payable jointly to the student and his/her institution of higher education.
