Writing Center

Mission & Philosophy

The Writing Center —located in room 213 of the Van Wagenen Library—supports the college’s mission of experiential learning through direct and personal, one-on-one help with all stages of the writing process, from brainstorming to the final polishing touches.  Our trained peer tutors are happy to work with all Cobleskill students, regardless of major or year, and we strive to promote lasting success by handing the pencil to the tutee and talking out suggestions, strategies, and ideas.  All Writing Center services are free and unlimited.

We offer:

  • tips for understanding writing assignments
  • tools for organizing ideas
  • assistance in revising work for meaning and clarity
  • suggestions for strengthening writing skills
  • help in research, source incorporation, and citation
  • strategies for discipline-specific styles

Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are often available as well.  For more info or questions, contact Dr. Matthew Burns, Writing Center Coordinator, at burnsmr@cobleskill.edu or x5391.
