MERITS Admissions and Expectations



A student must meet academic eligibility requirements as outlined by SUNY Cobleskill’s Admissions Office. The MERITS Program’s admission process differs from the general admissions process. Students selected for the MERITS program show a potential for success. When a student applies, the admissions committee makes recommendations to the Director of Admissions to consider placing the student in the MERITS Program. A student that decides to participate in the MERITS Program and accept admission to SUNY Cobleskill is agreeing to all of the following:


  • Maintaining enrollment in 15 or more credit hours per semester.
  • Completing at least 8 study hours a week at the Center for Academic Support and Excellence, located in the Library, for 2 consecutive semesters.
  • Meeting weekly with their respective MERITS Coordinator.
  • Completing one academic progress report each semester. 
  • Abiding by the behavior limits for students as described in the Student Conduct Codes in the Student Handbook
  • Attending the mandatory MERITS Academy.
  • Purchasing all textbooks within the first 10 days of school.
