30th Annual Dairy Fashions Sale Set for April 2

March 17, 2011

The 30th annual Dairy Cattle Club’s Dairy Fashions Sale, part of SUNY Cobleskill’s Centennial Celebration, is set for April 2 at 11 a.m. The sale, which is the club’s largest annual fundraiser, takes place in the hangar guest stables at the College’s Equestrian Center.

This year’s consignments include 90 lots and 20 embryos. The proceeds go toward club scholarships, trips and activities. New this year, the club will feature the Elite Fashions by having six cows representing the colored milking breeds in the Northeast. In addition to the sale, the Dairy Judging team is hosting a silent auction and quilt raffle.

The longest running student organized sale in the United States is chaired by Liz Trombley and Kristie Laverdiere. The sale committee includes members Casey Arlig, Jesse Phillips, Jake Brake, Ricky Donahoe, Rene Boardman, Samantha Hayes, Evan Rutledge, Tyler Curtin, Julia Bogardus, Sara Gage, Alissa Riley, Jesse Hargrave, Katelyn Dawson, Jamie Hackett, Al Duell and Chad Snook. The club is advised by dairy professors Dr. John Tryon and David Thompson. The sale is managed by Dave and Merry Rama of the Cattle Exchange in Delhi, N.Y.

The club currently has 70 active members who participate in everything from cattle selection and fitting to sale advertising and barn chores.
