September 13, 2011
U.S. News & World Report has recognized SUNY Cobleskill as one of the North's Best Regional Colleges. The ranking appears in the print and online versions of U.S. News & World Report's 2012 edition of America's Best Colleges, released this week.
SUNY Cobleskill earned an overall score of 19 and a peer assessment of 2.4, placing the College tied-37th in the North among first tier institutions, up from 43rd in the 2011 rankings.
The Best Regional Colleges category includes schools that focus almost entirely on the undergraduate experience and offer a broad range of programs in the liberal arts (which account for fewer than half of all bachelor's degrees granted) and in fields such as business, nursing and education. These institutions grant few graduates degrees. The 371 institutions in the category are ranked within four geographic areas – North, South, Midwest and West – because they tend to draw students mostly from surrounding states.
The 2012 America's Best Colleges rankings provides the most thorough examination of how more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools compare on a set of 15 widely accepted indicators of excellence. Among the many factors weighted in determining the rankings, they key measures of quality are: peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, and graduate rate performance (national universities and liberal arts colleges.)
