SUNY Cobleskill selects Dr. Zimmerman, Interim Dean of its School of Business and Liberal Arts and Sciences, to replace Dr. Debra Thatcher as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs as she assumes the role of Acting President. - 05/07/2013
The State University Board of Trustees today approved the appointment of Dr. Debra Thatcher as acting president at SUNY Cobleskill, effective June 1, 2013. Her appointment represents the first step in the process, announced last month by SUNY Chancellor NancyZimpher, that will lead to a search for a president for SUNY Cobleskill in Fall 2014 with the goal of having a president in place by the summer of 2015," said Candace S. Vancko, who has served as officer-in-charge at SUNY Cobleskill and president at SUNY Delhi since August 2011. Dr. Vancko will return to SUNY Delhi effective June 1 as its president on a full-time basis. - 05/01/2013

A groundbreaking ceremony near the Walters Barn on SUNY Cobleskill's north campus May 1 at 10:00 a.m. will signal the beginning of construction of a new 158-bed housing complex for upper level baccalaureate students. With its completion date scheduled to coincide with the fall 2014 opening of the Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources, now under construction nearby, Alumni Commons, as the new housing complex will be called, will offer SUNY Cobleskill juniors and seniors the option of townhouse or suite living on campus. - 04/12/2013
SUNY Cobleskill will unveil a campus tribute to veterans with a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate its new "Veteran's Plaza" on April 26 at 10:00 a.m. The design will hold special meaning to SUNY Cobleskill alumni and veterans because it was inspired by Jeff Vogt, a December 2012 graduate who is currently a member of the Army National Guard. The plaza is located outside of SUNY Cobleskill's Knapp Hall, a main access point for campus visitors. - 04/09/2013
Two SUNY Cobleskill students were among the 243 students who were presented with the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence by SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher at Empire State Plaza Convention Center on Thursday, April 4. They are Maii Zikry, an international student from Cairo, Egypt, who will receive her Bachelor of Science in Communications this year with a 4.0 GPA, and Marten Peterson, a Bio-technology Bachelor of Science major who will graduate this year with multiple honors and a 3.69 GPA. Dr Susan Jagendorf-Sobierajski, Executive Director of International Education at SUNY Cobleskill, was selected as one of eight award winners who will receive a 2013 Fulbright International Education Administrators grant to visit Korea in June. In an effort to raise awareness of mental health issues and reduce the stigma of mental illness, the Beard Wellness Center at SUNY Cobleskill is hosting Mental Health: Let's Talk About It, featuring Anna Arroyo, Wednesday, March 27, at 7:00 pm in Bouck Theater. Ms. Arroyo will share her personal experience with depression, eating disorders, and suicide. Joining us that evening will be representatives from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, providing educational and awareness information. The event is free of charge. - 03/08/2013

SUNY Cobleskill's police horse turns 14--Honored with owners and trainer at Saratoga Raceway. When a race horse turns 14, the last possible year they are eligible to race, horse and owners are recognized in a special post parade. Flapjack Attack, a harness racing horse named Horse of the Year, Aged Trotter of the Year and Trotter of the Year in 2004, was among those honored Sunday at Saratoga Raceway, with owners Michael Riggi of Clifton Park, NY and John Mongeon, Jr., of Ballston Spa, NY. - 12/11/2012
SUNY Cobleskill won the Turf Bowl at the New York State Turfgrass Association Turf and Grounds Expo in Rochester last month. The College earned the top three individual spots in the competition, which featured 31 students, including 15 from Cobleskill. During the annual competition, students identify turf grasses, weeds, insects and diseases. Student teams also work together on management-related questions and an essay question. - 11/25/2012

UNY Cobleskill opens its 7th Generation Lecture Series September 27 at 8 p.m. in Bouck Auditorium when Jonathan Comstock speaks on "Climate Trends Impacting New York State and the Northeast." Comstock is the first of three speakers scheduled during the fall semester for the lecture series. Shannon Hayes is scheduled for October 18 and Hilary Mayton closes the series on November 7. SUNY Cobleskill Professor John Foster, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, is a recipient of the 2012 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. A member of the SUNY Cobleskill faculty since 1988, Foster is recognized as the founding father of the aquaculture program. He has served as Fisheries and Wildlife chair since 2003 while teaching courses in Invertebrate Zoology, Fish Biology, Production Aquaculture/Merriculture, Pond Management, Marine Ecology, Fish Hatchery Management, and Fisheries Research. - 05/14/2012
SUNY Cobleskill Professor Joseph Sprague, Ph.D., is among 21 SUNY faculty members appointed to distinguished ranks, the highest system honors conferred upon SUNY instructional faculty. Sprague is only the fourth faculty member in SUNY Cobleskill history to earn the SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professorship, which honors mastery of teaching. For the prestigious tribute to be conferred, candidates must have demonstrated consistently superior mastery of teaching, outstanding service to students, and commitment to their ongoing growth, scholarship and professional growth, and adherence to rigorous academic standards and requirements. Further, a faculty member must have attained and held the rank of full professor for five years, have completed at least three years of full-time teaching on the nominating campus, 10 years of full-time teaching within the SUNY system, and must have regularly carried a full-time teaching load as defined by the campus at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional level. - 04/26/2012
Dr. Carol Eaton, president of Daytona State College, will deliver the keynote address at SUNY Cobleskill's 94th Commencement on Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m. More than 600 students are eligible to participate in the ceremony, with nearly 300 receiving bachelor's degrees. Eaton assumed her current position in August 2011. She is Daytona State's sixth president and the first female to hold the post in the college's 50-plus year history. Prior to joining Daytona State, Eaton was president of Frederick Community College in Maryland, where she implemented multiple cycles of strategic planning and managed significant budget cuts during a four-year period that saw enrollment increase by 30 percent. - 04/24/2012

Golding Middle School students will travel to SUNY Cobleskill on Monday, April 30, for the Beard Wellness Center's annual Wellness Walk. This year, students and staff will be using improved pedestrian walkways constructed as part of the Creating Healthy Places initiative. Creating Healthy Places is working with the village of Cobleskill to promote a more walkable community.
