SUNY Cobleskill Recognized As Top School In 2012-2013 Blood Donations By SUNY-Red Cross Partnership For Sixth Year Straight
The State University of New York at Cobleskill collected 533 units of blood from an enrollment of 2,615 students, totaling 20.38% participation, earning them a $2000 student scholarship
As part of the Red Cross Life Share Program, the SUNY Scholarship Partnership has recognized SUNY Cobleskill as having the highest participation rate among four-year SUNY schools in blood donations to the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross is the nation's largest blood collection organization, supplying more than 40 percent of the blood and blood products used in our country.
SUNY Cobleskill's 20.38 percent participation rate earned the College a Platinum Standard Life Share Level, which provides a $2000 scholarship for one member of the College's Student Government Association, the organization which normally sponsors the blood drive. This is the sixth year in a row that SUNY Cobleskill has received the top award for blood donations in this program.
"This is a testament to the outstanding student leadership on our campus and the extraordinary contributions of our students to community service," said Student Affairs Vice President Steve Ackerknecht. "We applaud the leadership of Jeff Foote, Director of Student Life Center, and the Student Government Association for their outstanding efforts in making a difference and saving lives by donating blood!" SUNY Cobleskill's overall community service efforts have also been recognized by the College's repeated inclusion on The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
