SUNY Cobleskill Culinary Arts Student Receives Scholarship from the NYS Bakers Association
President of the SUNY Cobleskill Student Pastry Arts Club, Brandi Mastin of Honeoye, NY, will receive a pastry scholarship from the Board of New York State Bakers Association. Mastin accompanied professor and chef, JoAnne Cloughly, as an apprentice judge this past spring at the Skills USA State competition in Syracuse. During her experience she was able to work with the incoming president for the NYS Bakers Association who recommended she apply for a scholarship within the association.
On September 18th the Board of New York State Bakers Association did an overview of the proposed scholarship and decided to award Mastin. They also offered her six free tickets to their biennial convention in Atlantic City on March 30th and 31st, 2014. With the tickets the Association is also providing her with a free room at Harrah's Hotel and Casino.
Mastin will be taking advantage of their invitation to the conference. “I have never been there and the convention sounds like a great place to meet new people and build connections for myself for in the future,” she stated. She also hopes to be able to thank the committee personally.
When Mastin found out she would be receiving the scholarship she said, “I started tearing up because I was so happy. Winning the scholarship makes me feel that all my hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed.”
