SUNY Cobleskill to Offer Egyptian Exchange Program

Through Misr International University (MIU) in Cairo, Egypt, SUNY Cobleskill now offers a four week exchange program as well as an academic year-long exchange.  During the summer, students at the sophomore level or above, with a 2.5 GPA or higher, may take part in the Middle East Studies Program.  Students can also opt to spend a year at MIU and continue their undergraduate work, earning 12 credits per semester.

This interdisciplinary summer exchange program consists of a number of courses in humanities and social sciences, and will present an overview of the potential and challenges of the Middle East. While at MIU, students have the opportunity to take two courses for four days, and then travel on organized trips to the pyramids, the Center for Political and Strategic Studies at Al Ahram newspaper, the Cairo stock exchange, Alexandria, and the north coast.
Both programs provides students a chance to study abroad, learn about Egyptian culture, and work side-by-side with Egyptian students.

The year long program is geared toward communications and business students and offers courses in business, communications, language, government, politics, history, art, international studies and economics.  It is open to students throughout the SUNY system.  The bulk of the classes are taught in English, with the exception of a few language courses, which will be taught in Arabic.

Already SUNY Cobleskill has received four applications from MIU students wishing to spend the fall semester in Cobleskill.

“We found a good match with the business and communications programs and this is an affordable way to go abroad,” said Dr. Susan Jagendorf-Sobierajski, director of international programs. “This allows students to open their minds and to work with Egyptian and foreign students, and to have a taste of Arab culture and vice versa.”
