An important component of any strategic plan is the process of assessing an institutions progress that is built into the plan from the outset. This process—called metrics—will be used to judge the effectiveness of our efforts. These measures of effectiveness occur at two levels.
Here is a type of scorecard or “dashboard” designed to providing SUNY Cobleskill with a quick, overall impression. Selected and very general measures of progress in implementing the plan are included to assess general areas such as the student body, finances, facilities, quality, computing and general satisfaction. The information presented provides not only a “snapshot” of our current state, but indicates trends.
Additionally, a metric is included with every strategy and tactic in which we will engage in implementing the strategic plan. These will be used to judge the effectiveness of the strategies and tactics, in order to decide if they are effective, need to be changed, should be abandoned or have resulted in accomplishment of the desired outcomes. To that end, metrics will be measured each summer as part of the review and updating of the plan to be completed near the start of each fall semester.
