Services
The Wellness Center provides the following:
- Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and injuries.
- Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of psychological illnesses.
- Promotion of healthy behaviors in order to reduce the likelihood of limited functioning, poor academic outcomes, and/or shortened lifespan.
- Prevention of the spread of communicable diseases.
- Education on appropriate access to and utilization of physical and mental health care resources.
- Development and maintenance of relationships with other professionals.
- Provision of training for faculty, staff and student para-professionals on student health and development topics.
- Implementation of a strong quality assurance and risk management program.
- Specific Medical Services include:
- Immunizations
- HIV testing
- sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment
- gynecological (female) exams
- referrals to outside providers for specialized care and treatment.
- Licensed mental health counselors provide short term counseling support for the predictable "problems of living" experienced by college students such as self-identity, sexuality, development of relationships, diversity issues and transition to adulthood. They are also experienced in dealing with more serious issues such as depression, anxiety, physical and sexual assault. Consultation and referrals are more extensive therapy are available.
- Wellness Center staff is committed to the prevention of acquaintance rape and are available to assist victims of physical or sexual assault. The immediate reporting of all such incidents to University Police is strongly encouraged.
- Wellness Center staff is concerned about the immediate and long-term consequences of abuse of alcohol and other drug use and abuse. Services and referrals for students with drug or alcohol problems are available. Consultation regarding friends or family members with substance abuse problems is also available.
