SUNY Cobleskill alumni have been active since the college's first graduation in 1918, when we were still known as the Schoharie State School of Agriculture. In the 1960's, an organizational structure began to emerge, and in 1975 The Alumni Association of the State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology, Inc. was incorporated.
The SUNY Cobleskill Alumni Association is a registered 501(3)(c) corporation, with a charter and bylaws. Its purpose is to promote the college and cultivate communication and fellowship among our alumni-fostering and maintaining alumni loyalty, while promoting the general interests of SUNY Cobleskill. We proudly serve over 33,000 alumni.
Alumni Association operating revenue is derived primarily from an optional student alumni fee billed each semester, proceeds of the Alumni Annual Fund campaign, and basic resources from the state. The association is governed by a 12-member board of directors, which includes two current students. Two college employees with an interest in the association serve as advisors and assist in the work of the association. Officers of the association include a president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. The president is the association's chief executive officer. A director of alumni affairs, appointed by the board, serves as chief operating officer and has the necessary authority and responsibility to conduct the day-to-day operations of the association.
The SUNY Cobleskill Alumni Association has three standing committees: program/nominating/awards, finance, and executive/personnel/long range/constitution. Ad hoc committees are formed as needed. Three representatives of the alumni serve on the SUNY Cobleskill Foundation board, and one representative serves on the College Council.
SUNY Cobleskill Alumni Association office staff work closely with other campus offices to further the goals of the college. We also work closely with division deans to organize regional events to coincide with their activities and field trips. Alumni often serve as advisors to active student organizations.
The SUNY Cobleskill Alumni Association is responsible for maintaining alumni records. An e-mail directory is maintained on the college's Web site, and a directory is published periodically. In partnership with the college and the Foundation, the SUNY Cobleskill Alumni Association distributes SUNY Cobleskill Magazine three times each year. The association also plans the annual Alumni Day festivities, as well as regional activities.
Each year, the association conducts a telepledge annual fund campaign, which consists of direct mail and telephone contact with alumni. Donations received are used for scholarships, special programs and association services to alumni.
The SUNY Cobleskill Alumni Association offices are located on the campus in Knapp Hall 123. Alumni and friends are always welcome to drop by!
