3 Keys to Success at SUNY Cobleskill, Before You Get Here

  • Set goals
Whether it's joining a club, looking for internships, joining a club. Focus on what you want to achieve.
  • Understand this is your choice.
College is a great opportunity and experience that people choose to experience. Even though at times it may seem difficult, the hard choices often have the best outcome. Sticking with your decision and knowing the resources available to you will help you know that you made the right choice.
  • Know your expectations
As an incoming student, there are few things that the campus expects from all students. Whether you are a first year student, a transfer student, residential or commuter, be aware of campus policies — from parking registration to class registration there is a lot you need to be aware of and a number of resources to help you stay updated.

3 Keys to Success at SUNY Cobleskill

  • Know your strengths and weaknesses
Build on your strengths and learn to compensate for your weaknesses. All college degrees require a proficiency in reading, writing and math. If these are areas of weakness, you may consider taking courses prior to coming to Cobleskill in order to improve and strengthen your basic skills.
  • Know your resources
As a student you have access to educational resources, social events, wellness, and so much more.
  • Advocate for yourself
You are your best sponsor. Having family, friends, faculty, and staff support is great, but you know your situation more than anyone. When you speak up for yourself, we are better able to assist you.

Staff

Leah Johnson – Educational Learning and Development Specialist
Paul Guerra – College Success Coach

Our goal is to help you develop skills to help you succeed academically. We are different than tutors or advisors because we don't focus on a specific subject or advise you on what classes to take. Our focus is helping with executive functioning to ensure you are not only aware of your responsibilities as a student, but you know how to handle your responsibilities. We help you develop time management skills, mindfulness, study tips, staying focused, and other habits that set you up for success.
