Academic Peer Advocates Overview

Who are the Academic Peer Advocates?

There are 10 APAs on campus, one in each Residence Hall. The APAs provide programming and mentoring to the residents in an effort to help them become better students. These programs are developed specifically to address the common struggles that most students face (see list below). In addition to providing face to face programming for the residents, each APA holds weekly office hours, during which they answers questions and share information with residents as needed.

What are some of the programs that the APAs offer?

The APAs can and will create whatever program is necessary to assist students, but the most popular programs tend to be time management, study habits, healthy living, nutrition, stress management, and basic college adjustment.

Are the APAs also tutors?

While the APA’s are usually very knowledgeable on a great number of courses, they do not offer tutoring in a direct sense. The Tutoring Center in CASE is the best option for students that want to prepare for upcoming tests and projects. The APAs all have access to the tutor schedules and are in a great position to encourage students in need to find a specific tutor in CASE.
