Commencement FAQs


Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.



Our Commencement Ceremony will be held outdoors, adjacent to the Neal Robbins Field House.


Is there a rehearsal? 

No.  Faculty and staff will be available the day of to direct you where you should line up and give you direction regarding the ceremony.


How long does the ceremony last? 

The ceremony lasts approximately 2 hours.


How many guests may I bring? 

Outdoor ceremony does not required tickets so you may bring as many guests as you would like. Note that there is no reserved seating 


Is there reserved seating? 

There is no reserved seating for guests.


What about handicapped access? 

If you need accommodations during the Commencement ceremony due to physical limitation, please contact the Office of Campus Events and Conferences at 518-255-5690 or Commencement@cobleskill.edu as soon as possible before the event. While we will try our best to make accommodations in the days before and on the day of the event, our resources may become limited as the event approaches. 


How does a graduating student get the cap and gown? 

Graduation regalia will be available to purchase in the College Store beginning Tuesday, April 5. No need to pre-order. 

All regalia product is available ala cart, giving our graduates the options to purchase the pieces they may need without having to purchase the whole unit.


Is there a charge for cap and gown? 

Yes. Associate degree candidates will be charged $75.00 + tax for regalia. Bachelor degree candidates are charged $75.00 + tax.  Students can purchase regalia at the College Store. https://collegestore.cobleskill.edu 


Will I get my diploma on Commencement day? 

Diplomas will not be distributed at Commencement. They will be mailed to each graduate's address listed on their graduation application, approximately 2 months after certification by the faculty that all graduation requirements have been met.


How do I get my diploma if I do not attend? 

Your diploma will be mailed to your address listed on your graduation application, approximately two months after certification by the faculty that all graduation requirements have been met. 

Where will my diploma be sent? 

Your diploma will be sent to the address listed on your graduation application. 


Can we take photographs during the ceremony? 

Guests may take photographs from their seats; however, in order to avoid obstructing the view of others, you are asked not to approach the stage area. SUNY Cobleskill has contracted with Grad Images, to take photographs of each graduate receiving his/her diploma from President Terenzio. Grad Images, will contact graduates via email regarding the possible purchase of these photographs. The College does not benefit financially from this arrangement; it is provided as a service to graduates and their families. You are not obligated to purchase the photographs.
