First Year Experience Program

Do you want to know all the ins and outs of being a SUNY Cobleskill student? Do you want to know how to be successful in college and in your future career? We are here to help you do just that!

FYE is dedicated to guiding all first year students (and beyond) to plan for and achieve career, educational, and academic goals. We will provide you with the tools necessary to navigate college life smoothly. FYE will:

How does FYE help me?

SUNY Cobleskill has undergone extensive research for the past several years to figure out how to support you - our incoming first-year students - so that you gain the skills necessary to succeed in your studies and graduate on time. Part of the answer comes in the form of a course, which is Foundation for College Success or FFCS 101. All students are enrolled in this one-credit course during their first semester at SUNY Cobleskill, and will successfully complete it for graduation credit.

Our FFCS 101 instructors will be one of your campus "go-to" people for your many questions and needs as you transition to SUNY Cobleskill. We will encourage you to be a part of the Cobleskill campus culture and will support you to be the best college student you chose to be. You are in charge of your destiny in college, but that doesn't mean that you have to blaze the trail all on your own. Again, we are here to help!

What will I learn in FFCS 101?

In FFCS 101, you will complete your own GPS Plan, which is a compilation of guides for planning careers, education, and academics. Do you know what career you want, what education level you need to get there, and what classes to take here to graduate (including course sequencing and General Education requirements)? We will utilize group work, discussion, lecture, and technology to teach you exactly what you need to know to be successful.
You will also learn the following. You may think you already know some of this content, but in reality, college brings new meaning to these topics:

Check out this sample syllabus to see more details on course content.

We look forward to working with you to achieve your dreams! For more information, please contact:
